Movie Buzz: Bride Wars
Despite the bad reviews, I went to see Bride Wars this week. I have to say that it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I don’t know if my expectations were really low or if my standards for movies in general has just gone down. The only thing that really bothered me was how stereotypical the characters were. They were not developed at all. Kate Hudson played Liv who is a Type-A lawyer. She is the controlling one in her relationship and she wants the perfect, over the top wedding. Anne Hathaway plays, Emma who is the quiet, selfless teacher. She has been with the same guy for ten years and he fell in love with her quiet, nice personality.Â
For some reason both girls wants to get married at The Plaza in June and they have been dreaming about it since they were little. It made all girls look like they dream of their weddings since birth which isn’t always the case. You would think that Emma wouldn’t want something as extravagant as The Plaza for her wedding because of her personality, but she has been ‘saving up’ for ten years. And she would throw all that money away for just one day, riiight…
When the girls get double booked for the same wedding day, chaoes ensues. Neither one wants to change the date so they compete with each other to ruin their weddings. They pull a bunch of mean pranks to try to make the other girl move their date-dying their hair blue, sending chocolates for weight gain, crashing a bachelorette party, ruining a spray tan- you get the picture.Â
As the movie progresses, you see that Emma and her fiance, Fletcher are not right for each other. Obviously they don’t make it down the aisle. Instead, Liv and Emma make up when Emma attacks Liv while she is walking down the aisle. Don’t get me started on this part, at this point you just have to accept the movie for what it is. Then Emma ends up walking Liv down the aisle after they make up. The end is really cheesy. It flashes to one year later and both Emma (she has married Liv’s brother) and Liv are pregnant with the same due date. Corny.Â
Although it was not the best movie of the year, it was definitely enjoyable-especially if you are in the mood to see a chick flick.
