Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen: Chic In The City

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen never cease to amaze me. They are young women who juggle multiple fashion lines (everything from t-shirts to their luxury brand, The Row) and still seem to have the time to be involved in the designing process. Their fashion evolution has been photographed for years- remember MK’s Starbucks cup and hobo chic kaftans?

I have been loving the way that they put looks together lately. They were both spotted this week leaving The Bowery Hotel in NYC and I’m obsessed with both of their outfits. I love how simple and unfussy they are. Simple aviators, a slouchy top, skinny jeans, and heels with bows.

Ashley looked chic by sticking with basic black and adding a little sparkle with her heels. You could get the same look by pairing your favorite J Brand black skinny jeans with a slightly oversized Vince sweater.

Mary Kate dressed up a white button down with skinny jeans and her signature assortment of chunky rings. She is usually the twin to carry a big handbag and this one is classic and gorgeous.

The twins recently did an interview with Telegraph about their fashion lines and working together. The interviewer, Sheryl Garratt, noted how the twins style is so different, yet they stay united in their vision for their line.

“Ashley is the one with the huge, doll-like blue-green eyes, the perkier speaking voice and the more classically chic style, dressed the day we met in a shift dress from The Row and an oversized sweater.

Mary-Kate reminds me a lot of Kate Moss at that age: she is slightly edgier, more rock’n'roll in her style, with a huskier voice and fingers laden with gorgeous oversized vintage rings. Yet when I wonder if it is annoying to be still talked of as a single unit, they look horrified. ‘But we are a unit!’ Mary-Kate says, leaning in towards her sister.

Though they have lived in separate apartments since they were 19 and take separate holidays, she adds, ‘We still probably spend more time together than we’re apart. The only time we really don’t see each other is when we’re sleeping, I guess.’ There are arguments, sometimes. ‘Usually when we’re both saying the exact same thing, but we’re coming at it from different sides,’ Ashley says. But they can’t imagine a time when they won’t work together. ‘We both have the same goals.’”

It’s funny how Mary Kate and Ashley look more alike now than they have in years. You can hardly tell them apart!
