The Search For The Perfect Nursery

I will tell you right now-I am a control freak. It is hard for me to have an idea in my head and not have it executed exactly the way that I pictured it. My husband tells me I need to give up a little control especially being pregnant. It is hard to change your personality overnight, but it is something that I have to work on.

BUT that does not apply when it comes to designing the perfect nursery for my daughter.

When I found out we were having a girl, all of the sudden I couldn’t contain myself. Thoughts of all of the gorgeous clothing, girly accessories, and the perfect nursery for her to come home to danced in my head! I knew I didn’t want it to be too bright or babyish. I am a huge pink lover, but I wanted the room to be elegant enough so it could transition into a little girl’s room. There will be pink, but it will be contrasted with more neutral colors like taupe and soft gray.  I’m also not a big fan of bright pink or leopard print nurseries even though I love animal print. I want the room to be soothing, relaxing, and special. I will be spending a lot of time in there and I want it to be peaceful for those 3 am feedings!

One thing I never realized was how much you need in a nursery! There are the essentials that you can’t live without and then all of the decor items that you don’t want to live without!

Here is what I have come up with for the essentials:

-Crib

-Mattress

-Crib Bedding- including bumpers, fitted sheets, decor pillows, crib skirt, etc

-Changing Table with changing table pad and baskets for storage

-Glider with or without ottoman. This one is so important for all of the times you will be nursing half asleep!

-Hangers for clothing/Storage for the closet

-Wipe Warmer

-Diaper genie

-Mobile for Crib

-Night lights

-Dresser or book case to display pictures and books

Seems pretty simple right? Then you get into the fabulous decor you need to complete the nursery.

-Rug

-Monogrammed blanket

-Pillow for the glider chair that ties in your color scheme

-Chandelier (a must for me!)

-Mirror

-Drapery

-Paint if you are changing the wall color

-Picture frames for the wall. I am going to do a small collage of different sizes of vintage frames

-Letters that spell out your babies name if you choose

-Books that have special meaning to fill up the book selves.

-Any other special decor that you come up with!

As you can imagine, all of these ‘must-haves’ add up quickly!

I have lots of design ideas that I am working on now. I will be posting some of my inspiration as the weeks go on so you can see all the progress! It will be an undertaking, but I am excited for the journey!
